National Association of Animal Behaviorists - NAAB

We are a non-profit association dedicated to the field of clinical and applied animal behavior.  Our members are highly qualified professionals who specialize in applying animal behavior science to a variety of
species to promote well being and assist in their integration with mankind.  Many animal behaviorists work specifically with companion animals such as dogs, cats, horses, birds, and small animals.  We are referred to as animal behaviorists by veterinarians, dog trainers, groomers, and other pet professionals.  In addition to helping pet owners with pet behavior problems, animal behaviorists often work or volunteer in animal shelters to assist animals in need of homes.  You might also find an animal behaviorist or veterinary behaviorist working at your local veterinary office, or your veterinarian may give a referral to a qualified behaviorist in your area.

Animal behaviorists specialize in resolving behavior problems common in many companion animals and other species, emphasizing positive training techniques and behavior modification.  Common behavior problems of dogs and cats that often require the help of a behaviorist include aggression, separation anxiety, housesoiling, destructive behavior, fears, phobias and obsessive-compulsive behaviors.  Routine misbehavior such as barking, jumping, and poor recall can also be addressed by an animal behaviorist.
